“Bloom where you are planted” is an old saying attributed to the 16th and 17th-century Bishop of Geneva, Saint Francis de Sales. For nearly twenty-six years, God “planted” us in Brazil. We did the best we could to “bloom” in all seasons of life. There were days of sunshine, as well as storms. There were times of fruitfulness, and also barrenness. Then, after twenty-five years and nine months, God “uprooted” us, and “transplanted” us into a “flowerpot.” We are not going to be “putting our roots” down in the ground, for we are now called to “bloom” in different places, in different circumstances, for different people as God moves us. We are happy to grow and bloom as God leads. We know that there will be sunshine and rain, but each place we visit will be a different opportunity to be used for God’s glory.
Where are you in life? Bloom where you are planted, but don’t refuse to be uprooted by God in order to spread the Gospel to those who have never heard or known of God’s Son and His salvation. One flower in a botanical garden may not stand out or be seen, but one flower in the desert will stand out and be noticed by many. Instead of complaining of being uprooted and replanted, BLOOM, and let the beauty of Jesus be seen in you today!
